POND SEALING

POND SEALING TESTAMONIAL (Writing from near Dallas) "Just wanted to tell you that I have a pond about an acre in area that has leaked ever since it was built. 14 years. We tried a lot of different things, straw, bentonite, drywall pieces, more bentonite and finally your DB110. Applied about 12 gallons and it stopped leaking immediately. I mean like right now. Thank you so much for a product that really delivers. John F."

POND SEALING TESTIMONIAL (Writing from Kentucky) "I’ve got a lot of money in this pond. I ran into a lot of stone. I dug it 34 feet deep, but it wouldn’t fill up. At that point I bought 2 six-gallon pails of DB-110 and applied 1 pail to the pond, holding one in reserve. That one pail, plus a little sodium bentonite you advised me to use, brought the water up to 12 feet, but it found a leak somewhere at that level. That’s when I put in the second six-gallon pail and sprayed the banks along with it. The pond filled all the way up. I’m calling back today to get 2 six-gallon pails for my neighbor. Thomas R."

DB-110 Pond Sealer PondEnviro’s DB-110 (liquid) and DB-200 (granulated) pond sealant, when introduced to water, expands to approximately 500 times its initial size.

It is possible that it will take more than one application of our liquid Pond Sealer/Water Clarifier to be most effective. We applied it to our pond three times to get the best result. This product works on small leaks, not large holes and will not work for rubber liners. It’s secondary function, attracting suspended particulate, actually improves water clarity. Our Pond Sealers are not toxic and do not harm pets, fish or plants.

Feeding fish in a pond treated by DB-110.

We find that raising fish in ponds, in which our Pond Sealers have been applied, works fine. Fish grow rapidly in these ponds, with the use of fish food high in protein. Our customers report that our liquid Pond Sealer/Water Clarifier has increased the clarity of their ponds’ water while remedying leakage problems. We have been personally very pleased with the results we have obtained in our own ponds.

We recommend application of liquid pond sealant, DB-110, in existing ponds for improved water clarity and stopping small leaks.

New construction or drained ponds.

DB-200 Pond SealerDB-200 Pond SealerWhen constructing new ponds, or re-sealing drained ponds, we recommend that you spread dry pond sealant, DB-200, on top of the final graded dirt and then drive over the pond sealant with smooth-roller-type construction equipment. (We do NOT recommend “sheep’s foot” type rollers.) Use (4) 6-gallon pails of DB-200 per acre.

For marginal soils (sandy or rocky) requiring a clay lining to be imported, we recommend first applying DB-200 to the shaped soil, then 8 inches of clay, with another DB-200 application on top. This helps to seal the pond from the outset. DB-200 is NOT for use with ponds that have water in them.

The degree of effectiveness in regard to sealing a pond varies from application to application due to soil structure, whereas the clarification function is rather uniform. If you have questions about your soil’s structure, why not take advantage of PondEnviro’s decades of experience before you begin digging a new pond or draining an existing one?

5 Reasons DB-110 works...

There are 5 main characteristics to DB-110 that help to fight pond leaking:
  • As mentioned above, when introduced to water DB-110 begins a slow process of swelling up. About 500 times its original size, molecule by molecule.
  • Since DB-110 is ever so slightly heavier than water, it takes about 3 to 5 days to settle to the bottom of your pond. This is important for pond clarification, and sealing... (read on).
  • After being applied to a pond, DB-110 begins to agglomerate, or form into "globs" that attract particles (like sediment) which are suspended in the water. We find that about 80% of the "types" of particles in the typical pond tend to be attracted to the agglomeration of DB-110. Since these "globs" are sinking very, very slowly, some are carried to the places in the pond where there is suction created by the leaks themselves, being pulled into the leaks.
  • The very slight electrical charge carried by molecules in DB-110 have a "knitting together" effect on clay already present in the pond. It has the ability to pull together fine separations in pond clay lining. And last...
  • In tests we have demonstrated that DB-110 can stay present in pond "soil", even when the pond is completely dried out due to evaporation or draining. It can be successfully re-hydrated and working again.
There are limitations to DB-110's effectiveness. Because it takes time to swell up, if it is drawn into a rapidly flowing single leak, it may not work well, or may require multiple applications. However, if the leak originating in the pond covers a large area (a large seepage) that funnels down to a single flow, or (say) remains a larger sepage all way, then DB-110 probably WILL work well.
